Colorbond Fencing Canberra

The Definitive Installation Standard

Canberra Fencing supplies and installs genuine BlueScope Colorbond steel, specifically engineered for the ACT's Wind Region A loads and reactive clay soils. Unlike generic installs, we excavate post holes to 600mm-800mm to anchor below the frost line and seasonal soil movement zone, ensuring your fence won't lean or heave.

Why Colorbond is the Superior Choice for the ACT

Canberra’s climate is defined by extremes. Your fencing material must withstand scorching UV, sub-zero frost, and reactive soil movement.

Engineered for Wind Region A

While Canberra is non-cyclonic (Region A), our valleys create wind tunnels. We install to withstand ultimate wind speeds of 41m/s (147.6 km/h) using 0.8mm BMT posts, essential for open terrain areas like Molonglo Valley.

Built for Reactive Clay Soils

Soil in Gungahlin and Tuggeranong swells and shrinks, causing shallow posts to "jack" out of the ground. We excavate to 800mm depth, anchoring the fence below the active moisture zone to prevent leaning.

Bushfire Attack Level (BAL)

Colorbond steel is non-combustible and suitable for Bushfire Prone Areas from BAL-12.5 to BAL-FZ (Flame Zone). It acts as a radiant heat barrier, protecting your home from ember attacks where timber fails.

2025 Colorbond Colour Trends: What Canberra is Choosing

Colour Name Description Best Canberra Application
Monument® A deep, commanding charcoal. The #1 choice for modern homes in Molonglo Valley and Gungahlin. Pairs perfectly with rendered facades.
Woodland Grey® A dark grey-green inspired by deep bushland. Essential for blending into the environment in Googong and Jerrabomberra estates where covenants often mandate it.
Pale Eucalypt® A soft, leaf-green. Ideal for properties backing onto reserves in Kambah, Gordon, or Mount Taylor, mirroring the native gums.
Surfmist® A fresh, snow-white/off-white. Reflects heat in summer. Popular for coastal-style renovations in Yarralumla or Deakin.
Paperbark® A warm, sandy neutral. A safe, timeless choice for red-brick heritage areas in Inner North suburbs like Ainslie or Dickson.

ACT Fencing Regulations: Your Compliance Checklist

Before we dig, it is vital to understand the Common Boundaries Act 1981 and ACTPLA rules.

Side & Rear Fences (Exempt)

Generally do not need approval if they are behind the building line and no taller than 2.3 metres above natural ground level.

Front Fences (DA Required)

The ACT's "open streetscape" policy usually restricts front fences. Approvals are often limited to 1.2m height or require transparency (slats).

Cost Sharing

Neighbours generally share the cost of a "basic urban fence" (1.5m timber). If you want Colorbond, you may be liable for the difference. We can provide quotes for your "Notice to Discuss Fence".

Our 5-Step Installation Protocol

  • 1

Site Survey & Dial Before You Dig

We identify boundary pegs and locate underground utilities.

  • 2

    Deep Excavation

Holes bored to 600mm-800mm depth (250mm diameter) to bypass the reactive clay zone.

  • 3

    Post Setting

Posts set in 20MPa rapid-set concrete, tapered at the top to shed water and prevent rust.

  • 4

    Panel Assembly

Infill sheets (0.35mm BMT) fitted into 0.8mm BMT rails using vibration-dampening fixings.

  • 5

    Swarf Removal

Metal filings are removed immediately to prevent surface rust staining.
